Thathere
The documentary explores the fading world of the Thatheras of Jandiala Guru, Punjab — traditional metal craftsmen whose skill of hand crafting brass and copper utensils dates back to the time of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Recognized by UNESCO in 2014 as an Intangible Cultural Heritage, this craft reflects both artistry and heritage. Through the rhythmic sounds of hammer and flame, the film captures their devotion, struggles, and pride in preserving a centuries-old tradition. As modernity and machine-made products threaten their livelihood, only a few families continue this sacred craft. The documentary is a tribute to their resilience and a call to protect Punjab’s vanishing handmade legacy.
